Unbelievable how quick our time in Cornwall went by. I have been looking forward to my parents’ visit for so many months because I was dying to show them Cornwall in the flesh. I think quite a lot of people undererstimate that it’s actually a very long drive down there. Something we realised during our first visit to the UK 20 years ago when we drove all the way down to the Lizard, the southernmost point in Cornwall. It can stretch like a chewing gum. We spent a week in North Cornwall and even that takes about 6 hours by car from where we live in Friday traffic. You can add about an hour more if you’re going to Mullion Cove where we stayed the first time round. It’s definitely too far to just stay for merely 2 days and there’s so much to see that you should plan at least a week for this breathtaking area. romantic holiday cottages cornwall

You’re looking for a romantic holiday cottage in Cornwall? This is how you find it.

We knew back in April that we would be going to Cornwall so I didn’t want to lose any precious time and searched the web for a lovely accommodation right away. We didn’t want to go to a hotel but prefered a cosy and romantic cottage à la The Holiday. They even had the DVD available in the cottage and we couldn’t help but watch it for the hundreth time. Also the 4 of us would have more space in a cottage and either we prepared the meals ourselves or went out for dinner. I’m so happy that I started searching at once because many of the beautiful cottages were already booked. So if you’re planning on going to Cornwall in a popular month like September, start planning at an early stage to get the accommodation you really want. romantic holiday cottages cornwall

At first I was imgagining us somewhere in the South but when Joerg and I started talking about the area in more depth, we opted for the North because of the long drive. We said we could do one or two day trips towards South Cornwall which is what we did in the end. romantic holiday cottages cornwall

Upon my research I came across Unique Home Stays who have very special places in their repertoire. I can really recommend the website – booking and processing is super easy. If you’re looking for an outstanding cottage, this is your agency. In retrospect, for a cottage like we had I would probably go for Rural Retreats. This is where we booked our accommodation in the Cotswolds last year (see the post here) and absolutely loved it.

Our cottage was close to Widemouth Bay, a beautiful and very windy bay near Bude. You can also come across some windsurfers there. The kitchen was my favourite room because I’ve always had a soft spot for beautiful English country kitchens. Wonderful.

My own conclusion is as follows: I would definitely use Unique Home Stays again if I was looking for a very unique place (the name speaks for itself!) like this one for example. If you’re looking for a cosy and romantic cottage, then booking via Rural Retreats is perfect (last October we booked this cottage).

Fabulous! I love it! Is that your suitcase? It s a beauty! We were in Hampshire last week and it is also so very beautiful there. Of course we went to the New Forrest were we picknicked between the wild horses! I wentbas a child with my family to Cornwall. It has something magical for me.

Glad you like it Nancy. Yes, this is my suitcase, it’s from Steamline Luggage and I absolutely adore it. We’re dying to go to the New Forest too, sounds like you had such a wonderful time. Have a fab weekend.x

Ohh, I loved this post and feel quite envious as I am longing to visit Cornwall. I know I have told you this is from where many of my ancestors lived, as well as Devon. Apart from that, it is a beautiful place with a wonderful history. Thanks for the lovely photos.

Thanks so much Ruth. I absolutely agree, Cornwall as well as Devon are just beautiful places and I get that you want to visit especially because your ancestors lived there. I hope you can make it happen.x

Ah this cottage is giving me serious home inspiration! Thanks for the tips on finding beautiful places to stay, I really want to plan a wintry escape to Cornwall in a cosy little cottage, it seems a shame that we never get to visit much especially as we live so close by in Exeter xxx
