PLAID PIECES FOR WINTER

Hard to believe that the holidays are behind us. I always look forward to Christmas (and I think so many of you feel the same way) that it feels so surreal as soon as it’s over. Just a blink and on it goes. Now we’re all waiting for the turn of the year and like me, many are with me when it comes to being ready for action and making new plans for 2018.

I’m currently feeling quite relaxed and decided to go on a little digital detox. Not full-on but my biggest one so far. I didn’t manage to do nothing but I hardly checked on my social media channels. This time it became so obvious to me how important it is to let things go for a while. Nobody can work 12 months straight without a break and if we don’t allow ourselves a rest, we can suffer from a burnout before we know it. Self-employed people know exactly what I’m talking about simply because we have to look after ourselves and we know that if we don’t work, there will be no money. But despite that, we need to recharge our batteries to be creative. I planned this before my visit to Germany and am a little proud of myself that I managed to stick to my plans. plaid pieces winter

I’ve been in Germany for 2 weeks now and today is the first bright day without rain. So many people keep telling me that it’s always raining in Britain (sadly mostly those who have never been to the UK) and it’s simply not true. Germany  just showed me! I packed a lot of warm clothes and definitely some plaid pieces too like this coat from Orla Kiely and plaid accessories. plaid pieces winter

Dull weather that is going on for a fortnight is no exception in the winter months. Since we can’t change the weather, we should at least choose some colour and pattern. Now is the time for plaid pieces like a plaid coat or trousers but also plaid accessories.

Apart from fashion, I mustn’t forget to mention Shugborough Estate in Staffordshire. This is a National Trust property and I think the highlight is visiting the Earl of Lichfield’s apartment. Patrick Lichfield was a very known British photographer and Royal photographer too who worked for all the famous fashion magazines. There’s controlled access to his private rooms leaving you enough time and space to have a look around (you’re not allowed to take photos though). But the whole estate is worth visiting; it’s huge and you will need the whole day to take it all in. And make sure to go to the tearoom too; it’s a very nice one.plaid pieces winter

My outfit:

Orla Kiely Coat (old; also love this and this one), Topshop Scarf (old; this and this one will be a great eyecatcher as well), Next Jumper (from last year), Zara Trousers (find a similar style here and here), Dune Chelsea Boots, Furla Metropolis Bag, Ray-Ban Wayfarer Shades

I’ve often been pleasantly surprised by the amount of sunshine we’ve experienced in England in the fall when we visited. It’s wonderful you have been able to visit your family and relax and take stock for the New Year. I’ve been enjoying all of your posts very much. Christie
