WHEN IN STOCKPORT

I thought I would know Stockport simply because we seem to pass through it almost every weeekend. A ton of places we visit lead us in that direction. Actually I don’t know Stockport at all though. How could I when the only thing we’ve done so far is driving along the main road? Finally we took a different road this time to go to Bramhall Hall. And then I saw that the residential area around this manor house is a dream.

I’m currently experiencing a bit of a setback. As you know we’re looking for property and after some viewings we are even more determined and know that a new house in the UK isn’t the right thing for us. Last week we went to see a cottage in a manor house. It had a huge driveway with the most stunning attendant’s hut. The size of the cottage was perfect for us, it also had a tower which would have been a dream for my blog. High ceilings, a beautiful country kitchen and all the rooms were so well proportioned. In my mind I started to decorate all the rooms and became euphoric. So what’s the catch? Although the manor house was next to a nature reserve, there was a busy road next to it which really disturbed us. Joerg went back late at night to check whether the traffic had calmed down. Unfortunately it hadn’t. Part of the cottage was a beautiful wooden patio but we couldn’t see ourselves sitting there and getting annoyed by passing cars from the nearby road. I’ve been extremely sensitive to noise for as long as I can remember. Whenever I had to learn for school, I needed quiet. I’m not someone who constantly needs to watch TV or listen to the radio. Quite the opposite. I recently saw somewhere that I’m not the only one who’s like that so that was a bit of a relief.

We spent our day which was extremely gloomy in the gardens of Bramhall Hall. We took some photos through the windows and I was blown away by the beautiful crystal on the dining table. As we went for a longer walk in the park, time went by very quickly and there wasn’t enough time to check out the rooms inside. You must think by now that my shoes are always dirty but I promise you I clean them every time before we leave the house. It’s just no good. Bramhall Hall is such a gorgeous Tudor manor house, the gardens are beautiful and you also get a yummy breakfast at the café. It was raining so hard when we got there that this was the first thing we did.

Sorry to hear that your dream house was ruined by noise. But there will be another one round the corner with no noise.

That is indeed a gorgeous Tudor manor house. Beautiful photos! And as always you look so well put together, quirky and stylish. I’m going to see a Tudor house myself next week in Hackney….hopefully there will be some photos!

I know but to be honest, it’s not easy to find perfectly sized rooms here and these ones were perfect, argh, it drives me crazy. Fingers crossed we will find something we love and that isn’t too small (or too big!). Thanks so much Gail, will have to check out the manor house in Hackney, it sounds fab.x

I feel the same way about knowing certain places, Kirsten!! Even just in our neighborhood, until you start exploring, it’s really like you don’t know much about it!
This manor is fabulous!! Those photos through the window turned out great—did you do something different with the camera settings?
Finding the perfect place seems like there are always set backs! We moved last year, and it wasn’t without issues—ugh!

I know, I think it’s often when you live somewhere, you don’t explore enough, unless you’re a blogger of course, that changes everything. Regarding the photos: My hubs took them and I asked him and he said he only tried to focus on the items on the table as best as he could. I love them too. I know, I’m still sad about the cottage, if only it was somewhere else, the rooms and the kitchen were perfect.

In what area are you living now? I guess it is somewhere up North? Beautiful skirt btw. Sorry to hear about the noise, it sure is important to visit a house on different times of the day.

We live in Heswall near Liverpool. Oh yes, it’s always important, when we had our house built in Germany, we checked many many times before we actually made it happen.

Love the manor house – I suspect this is the sort of house you need to buy! I fully sympathise with you about the noise. I can’t be easy to find what you want, but I really hope you do. I too have this issue and am very fortunate to now live overlooking a golf course.

Hehe, I think this manor house would be a tad too big!! But it’s beautiful that’s for sure. I’m so happy to hear that I found another person who is sensitive to noise. I still can’t get over the cottage, the rooms were so perfect, I’m still sad.
