WALKER ART GALLERY LIVERPOOL – THE PERFECT SUNDAY MORNING

We have such a glorious day in North Wales today. The sun is shining and it looks like it’s going to be lovely on the weekend. As this isn’t always the case, you sometimes have to plan some inside activities as well. Shortly before moving we drove to Liverpool to visit the Walker Art Gallery on a Sunday morning. We had the odd rainshower and it was a bit chilly so an art gallery seemed like such a great option. What we really love about Britain is the fact that many galleries are free to enter. This makes sure that art is accessible to anybody and even if you haven’t seen it all, you can come back anytime. Every time we visit London we tend to go to the National Portrait Gallery because we love it so much, the admission is free and its location in Trafalgar Square is amazing. The National Gallery is right next to it too and quite frankly, there’s nothing better. walker art gallery liverpool

We would never ever call ourselves art experts, I think that would be very presumptuous. But we definitely enjoy art and we have some favourite styles. For me it’s the Pre-Raphaelites that I first came across during my studies of English literature. The Pre-Raphaelites was a group of painters and poets in England whose style was very much influenced by the Italian Renaissance. The art in ‘Victorian Treasures’ at the gallery had the deepest impact on me and I instantly fell in love with John Everett Millais’ painting ‘Apple Blossoms’ (photo 5 & 6). Well, a painting has to speak to me or not, it’s as simple as that. To put it into very simple words and with an amateur approach: I love the colours and the atmosphere in the painting and I’ve always admired the lush style of the Pre-Raphaelites. Experts will have a laugh at how simple my description is. walker art gallery liverpool

An employee at the gallery who by the way looked like Patrick Stewart (and who I admire a great deal!) talked to me and mentioned how much he loved my shoes. To be honest with you, it doesn’t happen every day that a middle-aged man talks about your shoes with you. It was quite funny, made our day complete and will probably stay with us for a very long time. walker art gallery liverpool

Topshop Gingham Frill Jacket, Topshop Check Trousers (love these ones too), Whistles Shirt (old; similar one here or here), Boden Angelica Flats (love these, these and these ones too and they are currently on sale!), Radley London Bag (old; love this one too)

I know what you mean, I am the same and that’s why it’s so great that tons of museums and galleries are free so you can go back whenever you like. Glad you like the mixing of prints Jodie. Thank you!

It looks a wonderful gallery Kirsten. I like your outfit and recognised the lovely shoes. I also like your jacket – very smart.

Yes, it’s a great gallery and the fact that it’s free is so great. I love wearing these shoes because they are flat. Thank you my lovely.
