You love romantic and playful looks as much as I do? Then keep on reading. You saw me wearing this beautiful Laura Ashley maxi skirt here. I adore the style because the shape and print are from the archives. Even though the skirt is no longer available, it’s quite easy to recreate the look with similar items. romantic look with maxi skirt

Maxi skirts are the perfect base if you want to go for a romantic look. You can either take a pleated skirt (I love this one) or a tiered skirt (this one is too pretty for words). Then combine a beautiful and playful blouse and you’re almost done. I bought mine last year at ASOS and wear it a lot (last time here and here). I found some beautiful alternatives and linked them for you below. romantic look with maxi skirt

I think there’s nothing more classic and more female than Mary Jane pumps. No matter if you go for a flat version, this shoe can make any outfit so much more beautiful. I have to admit that I have some styles at home and just recently added this velvet pair in blush and with a block heel. Aren’t they the prettiest?

Before I forget to mention: The photos here show Plas Newydd in Llangollen, a house set up by 2 Irish ladies (called ‘Ladies of Llangollen’) in the late 18th century who lived in a relationship. They caused a big scandal back in the day. The place isn’t very touristy which makes it even more appealing. I fell in love with the garden that just oozes dreaminess and a lot of romance.

My outfit:

ASOS Reclaimed Vintage Shirt (old; so in love with this and this one too), Laura Ashley Skirt (old; love this, this and this one too), ASOS Mary Jane Pumps, Sophie Hulme Bag (I’m loving this style as well)

This is nice fresh look. Do you have suggestions for the fuller figure such as moi? I am thinking what is best for what to do with the blouse when one is fuller around the middle. I went out the other night with a pleated maxi skirt with a longish, slim fitting top that wasn’t tucked in. I think it looked OK. I don’t like too many coats and layers though. I love your petticoat and shoes. Very feminine.xx

Thank you Ruth. If you have a fuller figure in the middle you definitely have some options: If you want to tuck in your top you can absolutely do it and wear a vest or a shorter jacket (like denim) over it if you go for a wider and longer skirt. I think if you wear a maxi skirt that is wide and not tuck in your shirt, it could actually make you look fuller than probably are. I think I would go for a pencil skirt (or similar) if you decide not to tuck in, that would look great with a lose shirt or blouse.x
