On West Kirby’s Coast: Hilbre Island

I’m sitting here in front of my computer with a view into the garden: It looks nasty and quite windy out there. Very different compared to last Saturday when we took a walk to Hilbre Island starting from West Kirby. We’ll be living only another week on the Wirral peninsula. Hilbre Island is an archipelago situated at the mouth of the Dee Estuary where you can walk across the mud flats for hours. (Always make sure to check the tides.)

We met many people since the weather was lovely with only little wind. We walked to the island, took photos and made our way back to West Kirby. We were running out of time though and couldn’t explore everything. I would have loved to see the seals there. But for that you have to walk a little further. Hence my recommendation: If you’re planning on going, wait for great weather, take food and water with you and don’t forget some warm clothes and just stay on the island for 5 hours whilst the tide is in before you can safely return to West Kirby. It might also be worth carrying a pair of binoculars to watch the birds. We loved the island and already made plans to go back in summer and stay one low and high tide cycle. It’ll give us enough time to watch the animals and hopefully photograph them as well. hilbre island

Well, we now won’t be going back to Chester because we didn’t find a furnished flat we liked. We postponed the purchase of a property and want to wait what is going to happen after Brexit. So we’ll be renting a cottage in Wales which is right next to a golf course and we’ll be moving in after the Easter holidays. We want to get some of our stuff there within the the next days. Hopefully we can use the cottage a bit more for the blog with its little patio and the kitchen and all. It’s still hard not to have your own house where you can do whatever you like. Renting doesn’t allow that and that’s the reason why we want our own place again. We’ll continue the search without pressure until we found what we’re looking for or until it finds us! hilbre island

My outfit:

Oasis Cardigan, Zara Skirt (old; so in love with this and this one too), Joules Wellington Boots, Even Vintage Shirt (old), Zara Scarf (old; love this one as well), Ray-Ban Sunglasses

Ah danke! Ja, das stimmt, auch wenn ich meine liebe Familie in Deutschland täglich vermisse. Ich mach hier das, was ich 15 Jahre lang wollte.

You always show the most gorgeous scenery, Kirsten!!
And good for you for waiting to buy the right house. I know we were extremely pressured when we bought the place we are in now. Luckily we love it, but it’d be horrible if we didn’t!!

Thanks so much Jodie, it’s my mission to share my outfits and the great places within the UK. Oh I can imagine, you were lucky with your house then, so good to know. Just imagine it would have been the other way round? The horror!

Hi Kristen thank you so much for another set of delightful photos from your jaunts and your yellow Wellies give your photos a real Easter feel, of course Wellies are a must when going over to Hilbre Island and we always wear ours when we go.

Thanks so much Ruth, we’re glad too although all of this wasn’t our plan in the first place. But we couldn’t find something to buy so far and just have to continue our search and wait what’s going to happen with this Brexit vote.xx
