MASTERING THE FEMININE CASUAL LOOK

One of our most memoral moments in Wiltshire was when we visited Wilton House. Wilton House is privately owned and home to the Duke of Pembroke and his wife and 3 children. It was rather funny that it was the Earl who crossed our paths right away. He seems to have a huge love for vintage cars so he drove past us in a vintage Mercedes to get his photos taken on the back of his country house where Joerg and I were taking pictures ourselves. Until that moment, we didn’t really know that it was the Earl but I somehow had this feeling. He’s not even 40 years old and was one of the most popular bachelors in the country before his marriage. If you will you could call him a modern Mr Darcy.

I sometimes struggle when I’m asked to describe my style. I think most of the time I’m dressed rather casually. I do love the classic elements though and like to bring in some elegant pieces as well. I just don’t want to go overboard because that would be when it wouldn’t feel like me anymore. It was a very hot day and I wore my Evelyn Hat by Preston & Olivia which was a very wise decision. The hat looks great with many different styles and a midi skirt or a dress always looks amazing with it. So I went for a light midi skirt with a high waist that makes it quite elegant looking. And then comes the casual element: The striped cotton shirt (that I already wore here) which is so lovely to wear but also gives the outfit a very relaxed feel to it. The same goes for espadrilles wedges that look rather sporty and are such a must for summer. feminine casual look

Whereas I love a feminine look, I don’t want to go overboard and take a more relaxed approach by adding casual elements like a cotton shirt or sneakers. You will rock an elegant look by combining it with casual pieces and give it a whole new feel.

The ultimate highlight at Wilton House was to visit the inside. Unfortunately it’s not allowed to take photos so I can’t show anything here. But one of the reasons I was dying to go there was that some of my favourite films and my current favourite series ‘The Crown’ were shot here (can’t wait for the second season!). Wilton House is also the location for ‘Sense & Sensibility’ (the beautiful adaptation with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet), ‘Pride & Prejudice’ with Keira Knightley or ‘The Young Victoria’ (find more here). feminine casual look

As we visited Wilton House on a weekday and because it was quite hot, only very few people were there. All the better for us because we were literally given a private house tour. An older couple rushed through the rooms without looking at things. Such a shame because everything looked absolutely stunning. We were so taken by it all and were beyond happy that the people working there took the time to explain and show it all to us. One of the ladies told us how a banquetting scene for ‘The Crown’ was shot but the team forgot to lit the candles and they had to do it all over again. Aaaah, the horror. We adored the little stories and insights. The lovely lady also told us that the cedar tree in the garden (where I’m standing in one of the photos) was 350 years old. Can you imagine? If only trees could talk, I bet they would tell us the most amazing stories. feminine casual look

Thanks a million Ruth. The grounds and the manor house were amazing, we felt as if we lived there (we wish!) because it was so empty, it was heaven.x
