CHILLING AT EATON HALL OPEN DAY

When the Duke of Westminster opens his gates to his huge estate Eaton Hall, you can’t help yourself: You just have to go!

So the day had finally come again: Open Day at Eaton Hall in Cheshire last weekend. It is set so beautifully south of the picturesque village Eccleston with the village Aldford right next to it. Since having moved to Wrexham, it just takes us 15 minutes to get there and I enjoy it every time even if we just pass the villages by car. It might look like a film set but it’s all real, the villages are unbelievably beautiful. What a shame that you can’t buy properties there but merely rent. It’s all part of the Estate as well as are parts of Chester and Saighton. When the 6th Duke of Westminster suddenly passed away last year, his son Hugh inherited the title, at only 25 years old. With a fortune of 10 billion GPB, he’s the richest man on this planet under 30. Plus he’s also godfather to little George. Even if the young man doesn’t have to worry about money, I bet he can’t just go out to do some shopping or have dinner spontaneously. Taking that into consideration, I’m not sure if I would want to live like that. eaton hall open day

The Duke does a lot for charity. 4 times a year you can visit his estate Eaton Hall and walk around the gardens. All the proceeds go to local charities and people love coming here. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, you can pretty much walk anywhere in the gardens and get very close to the house. Many people appear with a handcart to have a picnic. The estate is huge and you find many quiet corners. There’s also a little programme, for example you can watch how gun dogs are trained or how sheep dogs work. I was very fascinated by that last year but missed most of it and wanted to see it this year from the very beginning. And then we missed it by an hour because we had the wrong time in mind. I was so furious haha. eaton hall open day

By the way, my little insulated bag is from Emma Bridgewater and great if you want to take some cool beverages with you. And there’s still enough room left for your mobile, hand mirror and lipstick. We discovered the juice from Great Uncle Cornelius last week and bought the rhubarb one. It’s delicious. I can’t wait and look forward to our next time at Eaton Hall. There will be another open day in July and I think by then the roses will be in full bloom, you only get a hint of that in the current photos. eaton hall open day

Thanks so much Tori. Yes, it’s quite astonishing that gingham seems to be so huge this season as I think it’s always fab and such a classic.

Hahaha that’s very deceiving Jodie. We usually spend a whole day when we go to properties to take our photos as there are always people around and often have to wait for about 20 minutes for a single photo because of the people.

What a beautiful place – a pity you couldn’t show us around inside Lady Grantham (being a friend of the family and all that)! You are looking very fresh and lovely in your blue and white gingham. Seeing your insulated bag, reminds me that I bought one 2 years ago, a really nice shiny black one. I put it away in the cupboard and have never used it. I must get it out. Ruth xx

It’s a wonderful place, isn’t it? Haha if only, right? Would love to have showed you around inside the house but alas I don’t know the Duke in person (!). Glad you like the outfit Ruth, thank you. Yes, I think these small insulated bags are just great during summertime.
