Today I’m sharing our accommodation The Beckford Arms in Wiltshire with you. We opted for a beautiful country pub this time, for one to test it for ourselves but also because we wanted to share our experience and tell you about it.

Why should you choose a country pub?

Those of you who love travelling individually and are looking for the typical English atmosphere, a country pub is the perfect choice. Since we’re no big fans of hotel chains, this kind of accommodation speaks to us. Also so much has improved and changed here. Meanwhile many country pubs have the status of a boutique hotel which makes this kind of travel even more attractive. There’s another pro: You can stay for lunch or breakfast in your chosen pub. The Beckford Arms usually has a BBQ on weekends in summer and people love it.

We opted for a medium double room in The Beckford Arms which appeared to be smaller than expected. It was absolutely fine as we had 4 hot days and hardly ever spent time in our room. You aren’t always that lucky though and I would go for a large double the next time just to have more space. beautiful british country pubs with rooms

With being right in the middle of the English countryside, the location of the pub was amazing. Just about 50m away was a very idyllic church and opposite the street you saw a beautiful thatched cottage. This was the entrace to the Fonthill Estate. If you missed one of my latest posts, I talked about it here and I also mentioned that you can book some activities through the Estate. beautiful british country pubs with rooms

Tisbury is only about a 5 minute drive and is a lovely village where you can find everything. You can also take great walks and a lot more. It’s the perfect spot if you feel you need to get away from it all. beautiful british country pubs with rooms

Where can you find these pretty country pubs?

I usually use 3 sources when I’m looking for something, Stay in a Pub, Mr & Mrs Smith and Sawday’s, all of which are great to find individual accommodations.

Before I forget: I really have to mention The Talbot Inn again which belongs to The Beckford Arms and is situated in Somerset. We went there for dinner last year and had the most amazing meal ever. And I’m not saying this lightly especially because there are so many great pubs around. The Talbot also has incredible rooms and the location is a dream.

These have got to be the prettiest pub rooms I’ve ever seen! Definitely having a look now to see when we can book a stay :p there was a lovely pub near us that did B&B in gorgeous rooms but they took the B&B element away last year before we got the chance to go, so sad! xxx

Oh that’s sad Lucy but there are so many gorgeous pubs around, I’m sure you will find another nice place, in fact it’s so hard to choose. We loved The Beckford Arms and The Talbot Inn is on top of the list.

More gorgeous and beautifully photographed locations here, I do love your travel posts! I know Wiltshire pretty well from holidays in Teffont Evias, among other places, where we stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel called Howard’s House. Did you visit Avebury stone circle while form there? Salisbury is such a lovely city too.

Hi Rozanne, Thanks so much. Howard’s House looks absolutely lovely. Ah no, we didn’t visit Avebury stone circle, we did a lot and couldn’t fit it all in, aaaaah. Hopefully next time. We went to Stourhead Garden, Wilton House, Tisbury, Gold Hill and visited some smaller villages and as we’re always taking photos for the blog, we usually spent a whole day or at least half a day at each place.

I love staying in local pubs – not so far to walk after my evening meal and drink.
I’m also a sucker for a thatched roof so that last photograph is calling to me

Totally, we really appreciate the pub culture in the UK, we love it so much, it’s nothing like in Germany. Yes yes yes to a thatched roof. Thank you Tori.
