APPLE SEASON IN BRITAIN – PICK YOUR OWN FRUIT

Since we moved to the UK, one of our passions is picking our own fruit. We never did that in Germany but we only had a little strawberry field nearby where we never went. The great thing here is that we’re practically surrounded by farm shops and most of them come with huge fields with all sorts of fruit and pumpkins. This is something we plan to do in October because we really enjoy a great pumpkin soup. We can pick our own fruit here and I must admit that it’s great fun. apple season britain

It’s somehow very satisfying than simply buying it all in the shops. Returning home with your own picked fruits and preparing something nice: It’s such a wonderful feeling.

We chose the Hawarden Estate Farm for picking a basket filled with dessert apples. We came here last January to have a yummy breakfast and loved the whole atmosphere. The shop is amazing as well (you can find the post here). So many red apples were hanging from the trees that looked more like shrubs which was great for me as I’m not that tall. I would love to have a little tree like that in my own garden as 1 would do for 2 people. I developed such a taste for fruit picking and had never thought I really would. But as odd as it may sound, processing the freshly picked fruit is something that gives me pleasure. Have your ever tried it yourself?apple season britain

As soon as we got home, we started cooking and baking and I’ll be sharing the 2 recipes this week so stay tuned. And there will also be a new vlog (you can find my YouTube channel here). apple season britain

Last year we went fruit picking here and just recently I made a scrumptious raspberry cake from freshly picked fruits (here).

Aww Kristen you’ve got a good collection of apples and they look delicious and you were wise to wear your Wellingtons the ground can be quite damp but how did you manage to keep your Wellingtons so shiny, when I go picking apples my Wellingtons get really dirty.
Much love
Julie

The apples were so nice Julia, thank you. I don’t really take care of my wellies, it was just a bit damp so I got lucky and they stayed shiny.x

I did enjoy this post Kirsten. Lovely outfit and yes, it is great to pick your own fruit and veges. I made some pumpkin soup this week. Sometimes I get a bit bored with just pumpkin so I add kumera, which is NZ’s sweet potato. Another tip, is either a big spoon of tahini paste stirred in after it is cooked, or a spoon of peanut butter – rather yummy!
